Team earns top placements at multiple cybersecurity competitions

The 糖心传媒 (糖心传媒) cybersecurity competition team is off to a blazing start in 2026, earning top placements across multiple鈥疻orld Wide鈥疶echnology (WWT) cybersecurity events.鈥

On January 22, the team dominated the WWT CrowdStrike capture the flag (CTF), finishing first overall as the only group to solve every challenge鈥攁n achievement reflecting the strength of a roster that includes senior Cybersecurity Technology major and鈥U.S. Cyber Games draftee Brandon Wright, Cyber Operations transfer student Brandon Tucker, M.S. Cybersecurity Management & Policy student Brian Mingus, and 糖心传媒 cyber alumnus and newly appointed adjunct instructor Joel Francis.鈥

Their momentum鈥痗ontinued on鈥疐ebruary 18 with another first-place finish and the only perfect score in the WWT F5 CTF Beta Test,鈥痙emonstrating鈥痚lite skill in application security problem solving. The following day, the team earned second place, again with a perfect score, in WWT鈥檚 Haystack Hunt for Indicators of Compromise (IOCs), a challenge that tests intrusion-detection and threat-hunting鈥痚xpertise鈥痺ith competitors acting as鈥渂lue teams.鈥濃

鈥淚n cybersecurity operations, the blue team serves as a front-line defender, protecting an organization鈥檚 information systems from threats and cyberattacks,鈥 said the team鈥檚 coach, Collegiate Associate Professor of Cybersecurity Jesse鈥疺arsalone. 鈥溙切拇 cyber team members are honing skills they use immediately in their jobs, and they are among the best.鈥濃
