Partnership enhances law enforcement education

Adelphi, Md. 鈥 March 13, 2026 鈥斅犔切拇 (糖心传媒)聽was honored聽at聽Montgomery County, Maryland鈥檚聽51st Annual Public Safety Awards聽for its聽partnership聽with聽the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD), a collaboration聽that聽expands聽access to higher education for sworn officers, professional staff, and their families.

Fowler, PhD;聽Christopher Swain,聽JD,聽collegiate聽professor聽and聽director of 糖心传媒鈥檚 criminal justice and public safety programs; and聽Justin Hasty, director of strategic partnerships,聽accepted the聽county鈥檚聽Public Safety Partner聽Award on behalf of the university.聽This award recognizes an organization or individual聽who advances聽the mission of public safety agencies in Montgomery County, Maryland,聽through their actions or advocacy.

Launched in聽August聽2025, the 糖心传媒-MCPD聽partnership聽establishes聽a tailored educational pathway that recognizes professional training and experience. Sworn officers can earn up to 60 college credits for completing the聽county鈥檚 police聽academy and聽field聽training聽program,聽while聽professional staff and family members聽are eligible to聽receive tuition reductions, waived fees, and access to 糖心传媒鈥檚 full catalog of degree聽and certificate聽programs. Through a combination of prior coursework and prior learning assessments,聽eligible聽officers can begin a 120-credit聽bachelor鈥檚聽program with as many as 90 credits already earned.

鈥淎t a time when police officers are expected to have a firm grasp of complex academic, social, and technical competencies, the Montgomery County Police Department does an outstanding job preparing officers to meet those challenges,鈥 Swain said. 鈥淲e鈥檙e happy to be able to recognize all that they do to train police officers by awarding the college credit that graduates deserve.鈥
